Yomiuri Otemachi Hall Reviews

Good acoustics. Great location.

A medium-sized hall located inside the Yomiuri Shimbun headquarters building. I go there occasionally for rakugo performances. Directly connected underground from Otemachi Station, the Chiyoda Line ticket gate is right in front of you, making it easy to access. The building itself was rebuilt several years ago, so the hall is new and clean. The seats are tiered so you can see the stage clearly even at the back. I think the distance from the front is a bit narrow. This is one of my favorite halls in Tokyo.

A small and sophisticated hall. It's small, so even if you sit in the back, you'll be close to the stage. Restrooms are 12 on the 3rd floor and 3 and 2 on the 4th floor.

It is said that it can accommodate about 500 people, but it felt like a much smaller space. Although the entrance is separated into the first and second floors, the seats are arranged along a gentle slope, so you can clearly see the stage even from the back. The staff was very efficient in guiding me through the theater, and I was able to enjoy the theater in a calm manner. If you would like to take a photo of the poster, please do so when you enter. I didn't realize it was an electric poster, and when I tried to take a photo as I was leaving the building, the poster had disappeared. disappointing.

It is extremely convenient as you can go directly into the hall building from Exit C3 of Otemachi Subway Station. I thought it was great that I didn't have to worry about getting wet in the rain from the station. There is a cloakroom and plenty of staff, so I don't think you will have any trouble getting directions inside the hall. However, one thing that bothered me was the number of ushers. There were more than enough ushers outside the hall (about 10 people), but on the other hand, there were more than enough ushers inside the hall. There were only 1 or 2 people in charge and it seemed like they were understaffed. For example, I've seen people who were lost in the aisles of the hall because they didn't know their seat, or people who had mistakenly sat in someone else's seat and tried to call a staff member to move them. I felt that way because there were people who had been waiting for a long time because they were caught by other customers and couldn't be heard. It may just be that they were short-staffed that day, but I would like them to always keep in mind flexible staff allocation to avoid such situations. The only bottleneck is the small capacity of the toilet.
