Great fun

I was in the performance "the harbor bar". (11.01.24) Unfortunately, one of the main actors fell ill at short notice and was replaced by an unfortunately very weak woman (which didn't fit at all). The overall mood in the hall was very subdued... there was hardly any singing along and no swaying. I expected more from this performance. I went home disappointed. A pity.

Heard a lot about the Engelsaal as an institution and now visited it for the first time. It was like visiting a friend in the living room: warmly welcomed and personally escorted to the seat. With a glass of Aperol Spritz you had time to explore the surroundings. The hall is not large but brightly lit, historically renovated and furnished with comfortable tables and chairs. You can somehow feel the years of history in the walls of this house. And then the show started on the small stage as if you were actually in a small theater somewhere in Montmartre. Why Montmartre? It was about Edith Piaf - a concert evening with her most beautiful ballads and chansons accompanied by the history of the singer's songs and biography. It was really beautiful: sometimes romantic, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes sad like Piaf's life with its ups and downs. Pamela Heuvelmans sang and interpreted so soulfully, so beautifully, so lively, so touchingly with musical accompaniment from Christian Wohlers on the clarinet and an orchestral Ralf Steltner (are there any musical instruments he doesn't know how to play?). You enjoyed everything for two hours and at some point the evening was over - of course with “Non, je ne regrette rien”. It was so nice that we immediately booked tickets for the new show in this house. All the staff were so friendly and so nice that you really felt welcome from the first minute and were looked after like a family. Many thanks to everyone involved!

The show "Fayr Lady" is very funny. We liked the actors, the scenography, the direction, the story told, the interpretation, the costumes - everything. The room is small, but it is very well organised. All services work wonderfully. The staff is very kind, efficient. Every decoration and every setup creates positive emotions. From the main entrance you are immersed in theatrical art. During the breaks you can very well get something to drink or small snacks right there in the room, which you can then consume during the show - there are very comfortable tiny tables for the spectators, conveniently arranged every 2-3 seats. You can also have some cocktails, for example Campari-Orange.. The stage is just large enough to perform comfortably. Under the stage there is usually musical accompaniment with piano and other musical instruments.

04/26/24: It was supposed to be a nice evening with songs by Edit Piaf. I had given my wife the cards for her birthday. It was a disaster... Despite train cancellations throughout Hamburg and a 50-minute walk, we reached the Engelsaal on time at 7:15 p.m. A quick trip to the toilet: no toilet paper, no towels. The cloakroom was also still closed. But we got into conversation with various other guests, including many older women and men. The conversations soon turned to why there was still no admission at 7:40 p.m. when the concert was supposed to start at 7:30 p.m.... At 8 p.m. we left the Engelsaal - no staff, no entry, no concert, no information whatsoever, neither on the homepage nor on Facebook. We have never experienced anything this bad. 0 stars would be appropriate.
