Sweet Honey in the Rock, formed in Washington, D.C. in 1973 by Bernice Johnson Reagon, is an acclaimed all-female a cappella group blending African choral, blues, gospel, and jazz. Known for addressing women's issues, social justice, and community themes, they've performed globally, released numerous albums like "Breaths" and "Raise Your Voice," and collaborated with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. They also contributed to the Grammy-winning "Folkways: A Vision Shared." Notable for minimal percussion accompaniment, they performed at Nelson Mandela's memorial.
